VisitDHS Grants 18-Month TPS to Lebanese Nationals in US Amid Crisis, Allowing Work Permits
Oct 17, 2024, 02:58 PM
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it will grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Lebanese nationals currently in the United States. This decision comes in response to the intensifying armed conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. The TPS designation will last for 18 months and will allow recipients to apply for work permits. Approximately 11,000 Lebanese nationals are expected to benefit from this protection. The Biden-Harris administration had previously offered a different form of protection for Lebanese immigrants in July. Additionally, Lebanese F-1 students will be allowed to work more hours and reduce schoolwork while keeping their visa status.
