A series of devastating landslides hit Kerala's Wayanad district in the early hours of July 30, resulting in at least 41 confirmed deaths, including three children, and leaving hundreds feared trapped. The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, occurred in multiple locations including Chooralmala, Meppadi, and Mundakkai. Rescue operations are underway with over 250 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence, NDRF, and local emergency teams involved. The Indian Army and Air Force have also been mobilized to assist in the rescue efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of all possible help from the Centre. Kerala Health Minister Veena George reported that 70 people are injured and 24 bodies have been received at various hospitals. A control room has been established to coordinate rescue operations, and medical teams are on the ground providing assistance. The situation remains critical with ongoing efforts to rescue those trapped under the debris. A main bridge in the area has collapsed, further complicating rescue efforts. Rahul Gandhi has also been in contact with local leaders to monitor the situation.
