Deutsche Telekom AG, Europe's largest telecommunications company, has launched a pilot project to test Bitcoin mining infrastructure using surplus renewable energy. The initiative, undertaken by its subsidiary T-Systems Multimedia Solutions (MMS) in partnership with Bankhaus Metzler, aims to utilize excess energy to power Bitcoin mining operations in Germany. By leveraging renewable energy sources, the project seeks to provide data support for grid operators and explore the potential of integrating Bitcoin mining into the renewable energy sector. Deutsche Telekom has also begun running a Bitcoin node as part of this endeavor.
