VisitDetroit Tigers Sweep Astros to Advance to ALDS, First Time Since 2016
Oct 2, 2024, 09:30 PM
The Detroit Tigers have advanced to the American League Division Series (ALDS) after sweeping the Houston Astros in the AL Wild Card round. This marks the first time since 2016 that the Astros will not be in the AL Championship Series (ALCS), ending their streak of seven consecutive appearances. The Tigers, who were 55-63 on August 10 with a 0.2% chance of making the playoffs, have gone 33-11 since then. They defeated the Astros 5-2 in Game 2 of the series. The Tigers, a No. 6 seed, will face the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS, marking their first postseason series win since 2013 and the return of postseason baseball to Comerica Park for the first time since 2014. The team is led by former Astros manager A.J. Hinch. The Astros were the No. 3 seed and AL West champions.
