VisitDetroit Sees Slight Population Growth in 2023 for First Time Since 1957
May 16, 2024, 11:19 AM
Detroit's population has grown for the first time since 1957, according to new estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau. The city's population increased slightly to 633,218 in 2023, up from 631,366 residents the previous year, lifting Detroit to slightly below levels of 2021. This marks a significant milestone for Detroit, which has experienced decades of decline. Despite this growth, the South continues to dominate the nation's population increase, while America's Northeast and Midwest cities are also rebounding slightly from years of population drops.
