VisitDenmark to Impose €100 Per Cow Carbon Tax on Agriculture from 2030
Jun 25, 2024, 05:20 PM
Denmark is set to introduce a levy on farm emissions, marking one of the world’s first carbon taxes on agriculture. This pioneering move aims to help the Nordic nation achieve its 2030 climate target, with support from key industry and environmental groups. Starting in 2030, Danish farmers will be charged €100 per cow annually for greenhouse gas emissions. The Novo Nordisk Foundation will finance $1.4 billion of the plan. The tax will also apply to livestock and will start at 120 Danish krone (€16) per ton of CO2 equivalent, rising to 300 krone (€40) from 2035. The tax is intended to inspire other countries to follow suit in tackling agricultural emissions.
