Sep 24, 2024, 12:20 AM
Democratic LaMonica McIver has won the special election in New Jersey's 10th Congressional District by 65.2 points, defeating Republican Carmen Bucco. This election was held to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Rep. Donald Payne Jr. in April due to a heart attack. McIver, who previously served as Newark City Council President, has been sworn in by House Speaker Johnson. She is the youngest woman ever elected from New Jersey and is noted for her focus on housing, infrastructure, and reproductive rights. McIver will complete Payne's term and plans to run again in November for a full term.
