MUBI's R-rated horror drama "The Substance," starring Demi Moore, continued its strong box office performance in its third weekend despite a significant reduction in theater count. Over the weekend, the film grossed an estimated $1.35 million from just 686 locations, bringing its total domestic gross to $9.73 million. This marks only a 34.8% drop from the previous weekend, an impressive feat given that exhibitors removed 1,026 theaters from its release. On Thursday, the film grossed $256,000 from 1,712 locations, with a total domestic gross of $8.39 million at that time. "The Substance" has garnered strong word-of-mouth, with audiences praising its intense and terrifying content.
