VisitDelhi to Regulate Coaching Centres After July 27 Tragedy That Killed Three Students
Jul 31, 2024, 05:11 AM
On July 27, three students tragically drowned after the basement of their coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, was flooded with rainwater. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi and Minister Atishi have addressed the incident, with Atishi announcing on July 31 that the Delhi government will introduce new legislation to regulate coaching centres. The interim inquiry report, submitted on July 30, revealed that the coaching institute had blocked the drainage system and failed to take necessary safeguards. The AAP has demanded the dismissal of the L-G and regulation of coaching centres, while MPs held a protest in Parliament. The government plans to form a committee comprising officials and students to formulate these regulations, which will specify requirements such as minimum infrastructure, teacher qualifications, and fees.
