VisitDelhi Sees Record-Breaking 228.1 mm Rainfall in 24 Hours, Breaking 88-Year-Old Record
Jun 28, 2024, 11:15 AM
Delhi experienced an unprecedented 228.1 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, breaking an 88-year-old record. The heavy downpour, which is one of the highest recorded in June, resulted in widespread waterlogging and traffic jams across the national capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the Safdarjung airport observatory recorded a total of 234.5 mm of rainfall from June 1 to June 28, marking the third highest rainfall in the last 124 years. The highest 24-hour rainfall for June, 235.5 mm, was recorded on June 28, 1936. The BJP criticized the AAP government for its handling of the situation. Notably, the Safdarjung weather station recorded nearly 228.1 mm of rainfall in just 12 hours, a significant increase from the usual 64.1 mm for the entire month of June.
