VisitDelhi HC Warns 2024 DUSU Candidates Over Crores Spent, Public Property Defacement
Sep 25, 2024, 07:39 AM
The Delhi High Court has issued a stern warning to candidates contesting in the 2024 Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections regarding the defacement of public property across the city. The court expressed its concern over the large-scale expenditure incurred by candidates, which runs into crores, and questioned whether the elections are a 'festival of democracy or a festival to launder money.' The court was shown photographs depicting the extensive defacement, including police stations and buses, and noted that it was a replica of 2017. The court asked the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University to take strict action. The High Court emphasized that the elections should not lead to the defacement of public properties and stressed the need for stringent measures to control such activities.
