VisitDelhi Government Orders Probe into 27 Deaths at Rohini's Asha Kiran Shelter Home
Aug 2, 2024, 09:50 AM
The Asha Kiran shelter home in Rohini, Delhi, has come under scrutiny following the deaths of 27 inmates since January 2024. The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged lapses at the shelter, where 14 inmates, including mentally challenged individuals and children, died within the last month alone. The National Commission for Women (NCW) and various political figures have raised concerns about the conditions at the facility, which is reportedly overcrowded and lacking in proper food, water, and medical care. Delhi Minister Atishi has directed the Additional Chief Secretary Revenue to submit a report on the deaths within 48 hours. BJP and other opposition leaders have criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for negligence and corruption, citing issues such as dirty water, infections, and malnutrition as possible causes of the deaths.
