VisitDC Mobilizes 25,000 Personnel for Trump's 60th Inauguration, Citing 'Higher-Threat Environment'
Jan 13, 2025, 04:52 PM
Washington, D.C., officials and federal agencies are ramping up security measures ahead of President Donald Trump's inauguration scheduled for next week, marking the 60th Presidential Inauguration. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith announced in a press briefing that the entire D.C. Metropolitan Police Department will be activated, augmented by nearly 4,000 officers from across the nation and about 7,800 National Guard members. Matt McCool, Secret Service Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office, stated they have been planning for the event for 12 months and are deploying every resource to ensure safety, citing a 'higher-threat environment.' Security measures include over 30 miles of fencing—the most ever used for such an event—security checkpoints, and drone surveillance to be used before and during the inauguration. Flight and maritime restrictions will be in place, and approximately 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel will be on the ground. Officials assured that visible and invisible security measures are being implemented to safeguard the inauguration.
