David Fincher Pitched 'Creepy' Harry Potter Film Inspired by 'Withnail and I,' Rejected for 'Thom Browne, Oliver' Approach

Director David Fincher revealed that he met with Warner Bros. to discuss directing a 'Harry Potter' film. During the meeting, Fincher expressed his desire to deviate from a typical Hollywood adaptation, proposing a version inspired by the 1987 British film 'Withnail and I' and aiming for a 'creepy' tone. However, Warner Bros. favored a more traditional approach, likening their vision to 'Thom Browne schooldays by way of Oliver,' which ultimately led to Fincher not being selected to direct the film.
