David DePape, the man convicted of attacking Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole by a California state court. The sentencing follows his prior federal conviction, for which he received a 30-year prison term. DePape attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer in their San Francisco home in 2022. During the sentencing hearing, DePape made a rambling, tearful statement, espousing conspiracy theories, including claiming that '9/11 was an inside job' and declaring, 'I'm a psychic.' Paul Pelosi submitted a letter to the court detailing the impact of the attack, stating, 'The last peaceful sleep I had ended abruptly that night.' The judge stated, 'I don't feel sympathy for you,' emphasizing the seriousness of the crime. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins acknowledged the public's unanimous condemnation and noted that DePape will spend the rest of his life in prison.
