The Washington Commanders clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2020 with a 30-24 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led the team with an exceptional performance, breaking Robert Griffin III's NFL record for the most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback in a season, now totaling 820 yards. Daniels completed 24 of 36 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed 16 times for 127 yards. He also tied Russell Wilson for the third-most touchdowns by a rookie quarterback in NFL history, with 30 total touchdowns this season. Daniels became the first quarterback in NFL history with 2+ touchdowns, 200+ passing yards, and 65+ rushing yards in three consecutive games. In overtime, Daniels connected with tight end Zach Ertz for the game-winning two-yard touchdown pass, marking his 12th fourth-quarter or overtime touchdown of the season.
