Dec 30, 2024, 04:37 AM
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led the Washington Commanders to a 30-24 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons, clinching their first playoff berth since 2020. Daniels connected with Olamide Zaccheaus, a former Falcon, for an early 7-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2, giving the Commanders a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Despite being intercepted by Kaden Elliss, Daniels rebounded by throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz in the third quarter, narrowing the Falcons' lead to 17-14. Chris Rodriguez Jr. later ran in a touchdown to give Washington the lead. In overtime, Daniels delivered a game-winning touchdown pass to Ertz, securing the Commanders' spot in the playoffs. Daniels finished the game with 227 passing yards, 127 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. This marks a remarkable first season for head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters, transforming the team from last year's second overall pick to a playoff contender.
