The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reached a $48 million settlement with Invitation Homes, the largest landlord of single-family homes in the United States, over allegations of deceptive business practices. The Dallas-based company, which owns about 3,500 homes in Clark County, was accused of deceiving renters, charging junk fees, withholding security deposits, and employing unfair eviction practices. The settlement requires Invitation Homes to refund renters and ensure clear disclosure of leasing prices. The company, formerly owned by Blackstone, has been under scrutiny for its practices impacting renters, including tolerating poor maintenance conditions such as mold and rodent feces.
