VisitCubs Trade Paredes, Wesneski, Smith to Astros for All-Star Kyle Tucker
Dec 13, 2024, 07:36 PM
The Chicago Cubs have acquired star outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros in a blockbuster trade pending medicals. In exchange, the Astros receive infielder Isaac Paredes (three arbitration years), right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski (five years of control), and third base prospect Cam Smith, the Cubs' 2024 first-round pick. Tucker, a three-time All-Star who posted a 180 wRC+ and 4.2 fWAR in 339 plate appearances before a leg injury in June, is expected to significantly bolster the Cubs' lineup. The Astros reportedly turned down the Phillies’ offer for Tucker involving two former All-Stars before agreeing to the deal with Chicago. The Cubs may need to negotiate a contract extension with Tucker, projected to command over $300 million.
