The banana was originally bought for 25 cents from Shah Alam, a 74-year-old sidewalk fruit vendor outside Sotheby's, who began to cry upon learning the sale price. After the purchase, Sun announced plans to buy 100,000 bananas from Alam as a gesture of appreciation.
