In a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Russia's Dagestan region, gunmen targeted religious and police sites in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. The attacks, which occurred on Sunday, involved shootings and arson at two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a police post. At least 15 police officers, including six officers killed, and several civilians, including an Orthodox priest who was beheaded, were killed. The attackers, believed to be Islamist militants, set the synagogue and churches on fire and clashed with police forces. The Russian Interior Ministry confirmed the casualties and ongoing security operations to neutralize the assailants.
