Jan 11, 2025, 07:16 PM
Cooper Flagg, a freshman basketball player for Duke University, scored a career-high 42 points, along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds, in an 86-78 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday. Flagg's 42 points broke the ACC men's basketball single-game scoring record by a freshman and set a new Duke freshman scoring record. He shot an efficient 11-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and 16-of-17 from the free-throw line, drawing eight fouls in the process. This performance marks the first 40-point game by a Duke player since JJ Redick scored 40 points in 2006 and ties for the fifth-most points in Duke program history. Flagg reached 30 points with over 11 minutes remaining in the game. Duke opened the game on a 14-0 run and remains unbeaten in ACC conference play with a 14-2 overall record and 6-0 in the ACC.
