The reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) has sparked significant controversy due to provisions that could dramatically expand the U.S. government's surveillance capabilities. The bill includes changes to the definition of 'electronic communications surveillance provider' which could compel nearly all businesses and individuals involved in internet-related services to assist in NSA surveillance operations. This expansion has been described by Senator Ron Wyden as one of the most dramatic and terrifying in history.
