VisitConnor Spence Elected President as Amazon Labor Union Elects New Leadership
Jul 31, 2024, 07:26 PM
A dissident group has won control of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), the only union in the U.S. that formally represents Amazon warehouse workers. The election results, announced on Tuesday, revealed that Amazon workers at the JFK8 fulfillment center on Staten Island, New York, voted to elect reform officers in the union's first-ever leadership election. Connor Spence, a key reformist and ALU co-founder, was elected president of the union. The victorious slate, backed by the union's reform caucus, ran on promises of transforming the union and winning a first contract. Every candidate on the reform caucus slate won decisively. This leadership change comes in the wake of the ALU's merger with the Teamsters to form ALU-Teamsters Local 1.
