VisitColombia Bans Coal Exports to Israel, Largest Supplier, Effective August 22, Amid Gaza Conflict
Aug 18, 2024, 07:29 PM
Colombia has officially banned coal exports to Israel in an effort to pressure the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the conflict in Gaza. The decision, signed by Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, will take effect on August 22. Colombia, known as Israel's largest coal supplier, has taken this measure until Israel fully complies with the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in a case brought by South Africa under the Genocide Convention. This move has been acknowledged by Palestinian groups as a significant step.
