Cohere For AI has launched Aya 23, a state-of-the-art multilingual AI model available in open weights. Aya 23 comes in two versions, featuring 8 billion and 35 billion parameters, and supports 23 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, and Czech. This initiative involves over 3,000 independent researchers across 119 countries and aims to push the boundaries of multilingual AI. The models are built on the Command family and are enhanced with the Aya dataset, making them highly performant and accessible to the research community. Aya 23 is released under a CC-BY-NC license and is designed to democratize access to cutting-edge AI technology, serving nearly half of the world's population. The Aya initiative also includes support for 101 languages, with open models and a demo available.
