VisitCNN to Launch $3.99/Month Digital Paywall in October, Announces Mark Thompson
Oct 1, 2024, 01:50 PM
CNN, one of America's most-visited news websites, is launching a digital paywall starting in October. The new subscription model will charge users $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year for premium features and unlimited access to certain articles. This move comes as the network seeks to bolster its digital revenue amidst declining cable television viewership. The paywall will prompt frequent readers to subscribe after accessing a limited number of free articles. This strategic shift follows a previous attempt with CNN+, which failed to attract a substantial paying audience. CNN Chairman Mark Thompson announced the plans in July. The decision to implement the paywall has not been officially confirmed by CNN but was reported by unnamed sources to The New York Times. In June, CNN began testing a registration wall, asking high-frequency readers to provide an email without asking them to pay.
