Oct 5, 2024, 03:29 PM
Clara Brugada was sworn in as the new head of government of Mexico City on Saturday, October 5, 2024, during a ceremony held at the city's Congress. The event marked her official assumption of duties, succeeding Martí Batres, who was present at the ceremony. Authorities closed streets around the Congress, including Avenida 5 de Mayo towards the Zócalo, and there was a noticeable police presence to accommodate the proceedings. Notable attendees included Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, and Luisa María Alcalde, President of Morena. Prior to the ceremony, Brugada walked along Donceles street from Eje Central to greet supporters during a 15-minute walk. Crowds gathered outside the Congress, some waiting for nearly four hours, chanting slogans such as "Yes we could" and "Utopías in all the municipalities." César Cravioto, Secretary of Government of Mexico City, stated that Brugada's tenure would be characterized by her closeness to the people. Jesús Ramírez Cuevas mentioned that she would "deepen the idea of a city of rights, a city for all, a sustainable city." During the ceremony, Brugada took the oath of office, pledging to uphold the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and the Constitution of Mexico City.
