Jul 23, 2024, 09:03 AM
Chinese scientists have identified a new mineral in lunar samples retrieved by the Chang'e-5 mission, providing new evidence of water on the moon. The mineral, enriched with water in its molecular structure, contains up to six crystalline water molecules, comprising about 41% of its total mass. This discovery marks the first time molecular water has been found in lunar soil. The mineral, named ULM-1, also unveiled the presence of ammonium on the moon.
