VisitChinese Scientists Discover 37 MeV Gamma-Ray Line in Brightest GRB, GRB221009A
Jul 25, 2024, 11:41 PM
Chinese scientists have discovered a gamma-ray line up to 37 million electron-volts (MeV) from an extremely bright gamma-ray burst (GRB), marking a milestone in the study of gamma-ray bursts. This discovery was made using data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) and China's GECAM-C telescope. The gamma-ray burst in question, GRB221009A, is the brightest ever observed and represents the highest energy spectral line features emitted by celestial objects in the universe. This finding provides new insights into the nature of gamma-ray bursts, which are the universe’s most intense explosions. NASA’s Fermi telescope also identified a new feature in this gamma-ray burst.
