VisitChina, Tanzania, and Zambia Sign Agreement on Key East Africa Railway Project at Summit
Sep 4, 2024, 05:24 AM
China, Tanzania, and Zambia have signed an initial agreement on a key railway project aimed at enhancing the rail-sea intermodal transportation network in East Africa. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of an Africa summit hosted by Beijing. The project is expected to improve connectivity and trade routes in the region, potentially competing with other international plans, including those supported by Washington. The railway corridor will extend from Tanzania through Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), facilitating mineral shipping and other trade activities. There is also potential for co-operation with Beijing on this project.
