VisitChina Smartphone Shipments Surge 25.5% in April to 22.7 Million, Apple iPhone Up 52%

Shipments of smartphones within China surged by 25.5% year-over-year to 22.7 million handsets in April, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). Smartphone shipments rose 10.3% in the first four months. Chinese domestic brands accounted for 20.58 million units, representing 85% of the total shipments, while foreign brands shipped 3.49 million units, a 51.7% year-over-year increase. Notably, Apple's iPhone shipments in China jumped 52% in April, driven by price cuts and promotional deals extending into the June 18 shopping festival. This significant growth in iPhone shipments has resulted in a 1.7% increase in Apple shares premarket. Additionally, 5G handset sales jumped 52% to 20.2 million, accounting for 84% of the total.
