China Launches First Type 076 Amphibious Assault Ship, Sichuan (Hull No. 51), Weighing Over 40,000 Tons with Electromagnetic Catapult

On December 27, 2024, China launched its first Type 076 new-generation amphibious assault ship, named Sichuan, in Shanghai. This vessel, which has a hull number of 51, marks a significant advancement in China's naval capabilities. The Sichuan has a full-load displacement of over 40,000 tons and features a dual-island superstructure along with a full-length flight deck. It is equipped with innovative electromagnetic catapult and arresting gear technology, enabling it to carry and launch fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and amphibious landing craft.
