The China Coast Guard reported that a Japanese fishing vessel illegally entered China's territorial waters around the Diaoyu Islands from Tuesday to Wednesday, October 15-16, 2024. According to Chinese state media, the Chinese Coast Guard took necessary restrictive measures, including warning and expelling the Japanese vessel. A spokesperson for the China Coast Guard, Liu Dejun, stated that the actions were in accordance with the law and urged Japan to cease all illegal activities in these waters. Noting the CCG's actions, the Diaoyu Islands, also known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan, have long been a point of territorial contention between China and Japan.
