May 25, 2024, 08:05 AM
On Saturday, May 25, a train departed from Xi'an, China, bound for Malaszewicze, Poland, marking a significant milestone as the total number of China-Europe freight train trips surpassed 90,000. This achievement underscores the rapid growth of the China-Europe Railway Express, which has transported over 8.7 million TEUs of cargo, valued at more than $380 billion. The annual number of freight train trips surged from 1,702 in 2016 to over 17,000 in 2023. The value of goods transported by this service increased from $8 billion in 2016 to $56.7 billion in 2023. This development has facilitated cargo movement and boosted economic and trade development between China and Europe, contributing to China's high-level opening-up and maintaining stable and robust foreign trade despite geopolitical uncertainty. This milestone is also a significant achievement under the Belt and Road initiative, promoting trade between the two regions.
