VisitChina Detains Four Taiwanese Foxconn Employees; Taiwan Calls Allegations Bizarre
Oct 11, 2024, 01:52 AM
Chinese authorities have detained four Taiwanese employees at Foxconn's iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, known as 'iPhone City,' for alleged breach of trust, according to Taiwanese officials. The employees, who work in roles connected to procurement for the Apple business group, have been detained since January, with at least one of them arrested. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, which handles policy toward Beijing, described the allegations as bizarre and warned that improper detentions could severely damage investor confidence in China. Foxconn stated that it did not suffer a financial loss from the employees' actions. The detentions are the latest in a series of corporate detentions that have raised concerns among foreign investors about the business environment in China.
