China Condemns Attack on Mandalay Consulate; Urges Myanmar to Arrest Perpetrators

China's consulate in Mandalay, Myanmar, was attacked with an explosive device on Friday evening around 7 p.m. local time, causing damage to the building but resulting in no deaths or injuries. The blast occurred at the consulate office located in central Mandalay, south of the Royal Palace. China's Foreign Ministry expressed deep shock and strongly condemned the attack, urging Myanmar authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and "make every effort to arrest perpetrators." The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar has activated emergency mechanisms in response to the incident. The attack comes amid escalating tensions in the region, where Kachin Independence Army-led rebel forces have been seizing territory from junta-linked forces in areas bordering China's Yunnan province, which is one of the world's largest providers of rare earth minerals.
