VisitChina and Australia Achieve Record Low Coal Use Amid 75.2% Solar Surge
Oct 20, 2024, 02:20 PM
China's clean energy initiatives have significantly reduced coal's share of power generation to a record-low 53% in May 2024. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that solar power will become the world's largest source of electricity by 2033. This shift is supported by a surge in rooftop solar output, which has propelled the share of renewables on Australia's main grid to a record high of 75.2%, reducing coal's contribution to record lows. The output of over 21 gigawatts (GW) of rooftop solar panels was a major contributor to this achievement. IEA data suggests that solar PV growth rates could become linear soon.
