VisitChicago Bulls to Retire Derrick Rose's No. 1 Jersey in 2025-26 Season; Youngest MVP and Chicago Native Honored
Jan 4, 2025, 05:58 PM
The Chicago Bulls have announced that they will retire Derrick Rose's No. 1 jersey during the 2025-26 NBA season. Rose, a Chicago native, was the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft and played eight seasons with the Bulls, becoming the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011. He also won Rookie of the Year and was a three-time All-Star during his seven seasons with the team, appearing in 406 games. His jersey retirement will make him the fifth Bulls player to receive this honor, joining Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen. The decision to retire Rose's jersey was made official on Saturday, ahead of a game against the New York Knicks, where the Bulls are also celebrating 'Derrick Rose Night'. Rose expressed his desire for his jersey to be retired, stating it would be a way to cement his place in NBA history alongside his MVP accolade.
