The Chicago Blackhawks have fired head coach Luke Richardson on Thursday amid a disappointing season. The team is currently in last place in the league and has suffered a four-game losing streak. Richardson, who was in his third season as head coach, led the team to an 8-16-2 record this season, falling short of the organization’s expectations. General Manager Kyle Davidson announced that Anders Sorensen, previously the head coach of the Rockford IceHogs, will take over as interim head coach. Sorensen, who has been praised for his communication and teaching skills in Rockford, becomes the third European-born and trained NHL head coach. The Blackhawks plan to keep Sorensen as interim coach for the remainder of the season before conducting a broader coaching search.
