The Central Government has lifted a 58-year-old ban on government employees participating in activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The ban, originally imposed in 1966, was deemed unconstitutional by the BJP, which welcomed the decision. The Congress party, represented by Jairam Ramesh, criticized the move, arguing that it undermines India's integrity and unity. The decision, communicated through a fresh office memorandum, has sparked political controversy, with both parties citing a Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order. Congress also remarked that the bureaucracy can now come in knickers.
