VisitCBI Arrests Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Excise Policy Case, Seeks 5-Day Custody
Jun 26, 2024, 06:42 AM
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally arrested Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the excise policy case. Kejriwal was examined and his statement recorded by the CBI at Tihar Jail before being arrested. The arrest occurred a day before the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear his bail application. The CBI has obtained permission to produce Kejriwal before the Rouse Avenue trial court and is seeking his 5-day custody. The case involves alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped 2021-22 excise policy. The AAP has alleged a conspiracy against Kejriwal, while the CBI claims his custody is necessary to confront him with documents related to the case.
