Jul 17, 2024, 03:27 PM
Ruby Corado, founder of the now-defunct DC-based LGBTQ+ charity Casa Ruby, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. Corado is accused of diverting at least $150,000 of $1.3 million in COVID relief funds intended for the nonprofit into private accounts for her personal use. The charges stem from the misuse of $180,000 in COVID loan money. The plea deal was part of her guilty plea. Casa Ruby, which was a lifeline for many LGBTQ+ neighbors, has since closed.
