Sep 11, 2024, 10:04 AM
A section of the Carola Bridge in Dresden, eastern Germany, collapsed into the Elbe River on Wednesday night. The collapse, which affected the streetcar and pedestrian part of the bridge, involved a section approximately 100 meters long. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the bridge was unoccupied at the time. The incident has disrupted traffic and the district heating supply throughout the city. Local authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collapse, and there is a risk that other parts of the bridge may also collapse. The Carola Bridge, located in Saxony, was scheduled for renovation next year.
