VisitCanadian Government Revises Dental Care Plan, 200,000 Seniors Benefit Since May
Jul 8, 2024, 05:41 PM
The Canadian government has made significant changes to its Canadian Dental Care Plan, aiming to increase its uptake and win over dental care providers. Since May, over 200,000 seniors have received dental care through the plan. The Liberal government hopes to extend this benefit to up to 9 million more Canadians who currently lack insurance. The changes, effective July 8, include allowing oral healthcare providers to accept patients on a case-by-case basis without officially signing up for the program, provided they bill the insurance company directly. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized the importance of treating dental care as essential health care. However, opposition leader Pierre Poilievre voted against the plan and has expressed intentions to cut it.
