VisitCanada to Require Oil and Gas Sector to Cut Emissions by 35% Within Six Years
Nov 4, 2024, 02:27 PM
Canada is set to unveil long-awaited regulations requiring the oil and gas sector to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 35% below 2019 levels within the next six years. The draft regulations, which will be published by Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, aim to reduce emissions by one-third over the next eight years. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is driving the policy, which is expected to cause tensions with the country's western provinces. The regulations also include a target of a 30% reduction by 2033. The final regulations are slated to be published next year.
