Canada's Nick Taylor Secures Fifth PGA Tour Victory in Playoff at Sony Open
Jan 13, 2025, 01:33 AM
Nick Taylor of Canada won the Sony Open in Hawaii, securing his fifth PGA Tour victory in a playoff against Nico Echavarria of Colombia. Taylor, who had been trailing, dramatically chipped in for an eagle on the 18th hole to force the playoff, finishing the round with a 5-under 65. Both players ended regulation play at 16-under 264. In the playoff, Taylor had to hole a 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th to stay alive after the first playoff hole. On the second playoff hole, Taylor's precise pitch shot from 46 yards set up a birdie just inside 3 feet, while Echavarria three-putted from 40 feet, missing a 7-foot eagle putt. The victory marks Taylor's third consecutive playoff win, following triumphs at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, where he made a 70-foot eagle putt, and the 2024 WM Phoenix Open.
