VisitCanada's Bill Blair Confirms $406 Million NASAMS Air Defense System Delivered to Ukraine
Nov 22, 2024, 10:05 PM
Canada has confirmed the delivery of the NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) air defense system to Ukraine, which was promised nearly two years ago. Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair stated that the system, valued at $406 million, has arrived in Ukraine and will significantly enhance the country's defense capabilities against aerial threats. The NASAMS system, developed by Kongsberg and Raytheon, includes multiple launchers, an AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar, a control station, and support vehicles. The delivery follows Canada's commitment made in January 2023 to support Ukraine amidst ongoing conflicts. The system is expected to bolster Ukraine's efforts to protect its communities and infrastructure from potential attacks. Further support from Canada is anticipated as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to seek advanced air defense solutions.
