VisitCanada on Track to Miss 2030 Emissions Targets Under Paris Climate Agreement, Report Finds
Nov 7, 2024, 06:00 PM
A new report by the federal environment commissioner reveals that Canada is on track to miss its 2030 emissions targets. Despite slower production growth and declining greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity in oil sands, the country’s overall emissions have only decreased by 7.1% from 2005 levels. This is significantly below the government's goal of a 40 to 45% reduction. The proposed oil and gas GHG pollution cap aims to cut climate-warming emissions while allowing production growth, as Canada strives for net-zero emissions. Canada is still not on track to meet its emission reduction commitments under the Paris climate agreement.
