Nov 23, 2024, 04:11 AM
Canada's public health agency has confirmed the first case of clade I mpox in the country, identified in Manitoba. The case is linked to an outbreak in central and eastern Africa, with the patient having recent travel to an affected country before presenting with symptoms. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has stated that the risk to the general population remains low. In the United States, a similar case of clade Ib mpox was reported in San Mateo County, California, where the patient also had recent travel history to an affected region. Both cases highlight the need for rapid identification, testing, containment, and contact tracing to prevent further spread.
